Hi, um... First post here, Emlan told me about this place and I've been lurking around for quite a while, now i need some help with a sprite i was working on It's supposed to be a bee type of animal with anime-style wings, but the animation has gone terribly wrong .-. I've redrawn those wings about 3 times now, and it always seems that the front wing is flapping inwards, it's really freaking me out >_>;; Anyone can spot me what exactly am I doing wrong that is causing this effect? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance! :X

Oh crap >_> I think the domain I hosted it in doesnt allow access from other countries >_>;; I'm trying geocities now, Tough I'm not sure if they allow hot linking anymore, if the image doesnt show up try copying and pasting it into your adress bar with a "?" after the file extension ^^; Anyways, thanks for pointing out the image wasnt showing up, any suggestions on how to make the wings look right? :X

Okay so um... I'm so sorry I'm spamming so much ;o; but my friend's host doesnt appear to allow hot linking either, so just go with the copy and paste thing with the geocities one ._.;; It's a sad world where you can't even post a 4kb file for free anymore! >_>;;;

haha everyone just type this in to see it: www.gotyaoi.com/felix/sprbee.GIFi viewed source and found it. cave, you're right. the wings flap forward and back. for a more realistic flying motion, make them flap up and down. for example, maybe the frame where the body is lowest, the wings will be up high like you have them, then maybe a middle frame where the body is up a little and the wing is seen from the side (it will look like a skinny horizontal line) and the third frame will be with the body up high and the wing pointing down (like the first frame except flip the wing upside-down and make it hang down in front of the body). That's how real birds work (not sure about real bees, but your bee has bird wings anyway haha.) If you wanna get really realistic, the wing will also move backward as it flaps downward... that's how birds move forward through the air. I like your sprite... it looks like it would fit in a mega-man game or something... one of those annoying things that swoop down and get you...

Thank you neveryone for your input but I was thinking, maybe you could help me find a way to make it clear that the wing is indeed flapping outwards without changing it's motion? coz the wings of that character really are supposed to be flapping in and out, and not up and down or anything :/

ok I think I understand what you are after now. you want the wings to stay up high like that but just kind of flap a little in place? I think you will get the effect you want if you just shrink the wing vertically in the later frame, and maybe move it backward a little. right now it is shrinking horizontally, which makes it look like he is flapping forward and back.
but I could be wrong. might be a good idea to check out old video games to see the flapping. try super mario world for super nintendo... the little flying turtles and the blue yoshi all have little flappy wings like that
good luck
