I just checked the whois on swoo.net and it expires 13 of oct, I know it isnt the 13'th yet, but some registrars are wierd about it and will mess with your domain early. I'm gonna send an email to frozenemu and let him know.
Well i just got the standard friggen "aol postmaster" "undeliverable" "mailbox not found" type message, so our only hope is if either A) Someone knows a non-swoo.net email address that FE can be reached at, or B) FE reads this temp forum before the 13th. I used to work for a registrar, and the good ones will only hold a domain for about 90 days, people like network solutions can hold domains for 5 year periods.
I just realized, the fact that I sent an email to the email address from the whois probably means that FE hasnt been getting any "your domain is about to expire" emails since the mailbox doesnt exist
Heres a update that might be good and might be bad. THe good first:
I did a traceroute on the nameservers that swoo.net uses, seems they are timing out, nameservers basically act as a guy that gives you directions to the gas station. lets say swoo.net is located on 15th ave, but you dont know that, you know that swoo.net is in cincinati or something, well you ask the nameserver ( or guy that gives you directions in this case ) where exactly swoo.net is located in cincinati and the nameserver guy gives you exact directions to go there. At any rate, the nameserver guy for swoo.net is drunk and passed out in a puddle of his own urine right now, which brings me to the bad part of this topic.
The bad part is, lets say the nameserver guy, which is angelnetworkz.net is going out of business, or their domain name is expiring, etc.. that means FE needs to find a new nameserver guy to give directions to swoo.net, even if he finds a new guy to do this today, ( assuming this is the actual problem ) it will take 48 hours for the new nameserver guy to pack his stuff, and catch a greyhound to cincinati to start telling people where swoo.net is.
I actually hope this or some other internet problem is the case, because if its not, and the domain has in fact expired, that means swoo.net can either
A) be held in internet jail for 90 days at least, on up into the 5 year range( if its network solutions )
B) the worst possible situation is that some A-Hole will try and snatch up the domain as soon as it becomes available again. Certain registrars ( internet DMV ) have services that will try and snatch the domain the second it becomes available, it happens almost all the time now to unfortunate people who forget to renew their domains. Usually the person who snatches the domain up will ask for some crazy amount of money for the domain back. And the fact that in most cases, if they have studied the domain and see its a goldmine of traffic, they will register it for 10 years and sell it back for thousands of dollars. I delt with this crap alot when I worked for a registrar.
I certainly hope it doesnt come to option B, but if it does, I would be willing to allow the pixelation crew to take over my hosting services, make themselves at home, etc.. As long as bandwidth doesnt exceed 12gb/mo, which I doubt it does. And I'm sure there are other pixelation loyalists that would do the same. or we can all pitch in for FE to get a new name, or help him with any fee's that he might need to get swoo.net back if option B was a reality.
