Well, I'm new here... what a great time to join! Hope the webspace comes back, or you find a good place to host. I'm going to be setting up a domain soon, if nothing's changed by then I'll see if I can get you a subdomain. How long has the site been down anyway? Anyhoo, I've been getting back into pixel art recently (I used to do a lot of work for the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advanced) after finally getting around to play Metal Slug... kinda re-ignited my love of all the old SNES and MD games I used to play. Also, I've been applying for jobs recently in the games development circuit, but I'm also building up a portfolio. Was just wondering if you guys wanted to give a little critique on one of the images I've done so I can get it up to professional standards. I'm currently in the process of animating him, so does anyone have any tips for doing pixel-based animation? Thanks guys, hope to see you around!

ok i just looked at this in photoshop, and the colour table is a full 256 colours, which leads me to believe that this hasn't been pixelled. Get it down to something like 24 colours and i'll critique it. Also the gun looks to be embossed, especially to the rear.

Yeah, it was a high-color image I cut down. Working on a 16-color version per request (Had to do one anyway, GBA color limitations).
But no, no (auto)embossing on the gun. I've never liked using photoshop filters for game-art.

I won't critique the art yet, butyou asked about pixel animation. The trick is don't think of it as pixel animation it is just reegular animation and all the same principles hold true. Generally you just skip the in-betweens. so a good game walk cycle is about 8 frames instead of 24-36 frames. Like I always say draw it out on paper scan it in then pixel on top.

It's a very good sprite, I as well would like to see it color-reduced.
As for Pixelation being down... well, it went down for a weeks or so at the end of September, and then was back up for a few weeks and just went down again (for maybe, 3 days so far?) Hopefully it will be back up soon.

Okay, here's the 16 color (Including transparency) version. For some reason his head looks like it's a little further forwards than it was, trying to see if I can recitfy that at the moment.
