Hi,
i am a professor at a highschool in Luxembourg/Europe and am currently working on an educational program used to teach dactylography in an optional course.
Therefor, I am writing a game-like program where my students will have to write computer-generated words as fast as possible.
How the "game" works:
First of all, the student will have to choose between six different characters as in games like Mortal Combat or King of Fighters. The game can be played either against a computer intelligence or against a human player over network. In some sort of arena, turn-based, each player gets a certain time.limit in order to prepare an "attack" on the enemy. Therefor he needs to type a computer generated word in a specific amount of time. The attacked enemy must then counter the attack in typing the same word in the same amount of time as the attacker. The attack will be displayed as bubbles with the letters in them, flying towards the attacked player.
I wanted to give the entire game a pixel-like look and got the link to the pixelation forum from a student of mine. He described my the old King of Fighters like pictures done by some members of your forum.
If you are interested in creating perhaps some of the 6-8 characters for the game, I would be very happy. As this is for educational reason, we aren't accredited any funds...this means that I cannot pay your effort for which I am very sorry.
Nevertheless I can mention your name and email adress in the program and send you a copy of the game.
Thank you for all your answers,
Laurent Haan

I just talked to some friends of mine and I found some free space on a webserver where I could just a webpage (for free) with Ftp, PHP, Mysql etc.
I hope this will at least be a little incentive for you to help me with the grafics needed.

*little confused*
I wanted to say "where I could host a webpage (for free) with ..." instead of "where I could just a webpage (for free) with ..."

as no one seems to be interested by my ulterior offer, I am proposing you now the following thing:
- 100€ (or dollar if you want) transfered to your banking account - free webpage hosting with ftp, php, mysql - your name and email adress mentioned in the game
What exactly do I want somebody to do:
- 6 portraits 100*100 px of the ingame characters - 1 arena in iso perspective 500*500px (but you can make (a) tile(s) and re-use them for the whole floor) - 6 ingame characters corresponding to the portraits 100*50 px (I can give you clear instructions on that) - if you're feeling lucky and want to do a perfect job, you CAN (but don't have to) make a small attack anim for the characters (like casting a spell or something)
Please consider that I, once the work is done, will ask you first if I have different job possibilites.
I will post more description of the actual game later this afternoon.
Please help me,
Laurent Haan

Don't worry about nobody taking up your offer. We are on the temp boards, which most of our users do not visit. Wait until tomorrow or whenever, and post on the actual forums, and then give it a few days before people notice the boards are back up.
Good luck with your project, I hope you can get someone do work on it for you.

sounds like it could be a fun game ... you wouldn´t happen to have a prototype already?
as for the type of the game - maybe you should have a look at "typing of the dead", it was a rework of the arcade shoot em up "house of the dead".
and as Nem said, don´t worry just yet - you should be able to find someone once the boards are back up.

I used some sprites found in this forum and on www.arsfortunata.com/ to show how the game arena will look like. Game description:The game can be played in single- or multiplayergame. First, you need to choose between six different characters (which are displayed in the character screen right after the beginning). For each character you will see a little description like his age, sexe, location etc. The entire game is based upon a dactylo course I give at my school, the PHP script can be found here: webdesign.alice.lu/dactylo/index.htmlOnce the game starts, a random word generator, based upon the difficulty level of dactylography you've chosen (not every lesson includes the same letters), displays a word you need the type. There will also be a counter displaying the time left for you to type the word. (beginning at 20 seconds and decreasing constantly) Let's suppose you got the word right, you've just launched an attack. An attack is based upon "bubbles" containing the letters of the just typed word, flying towards the enemy. The enemy now needs to type the same word (displayed in the bubbles) in the same amount of time as you had (20 sec's). If he fails, he loses a "life potion". Then it is his turn to attack (again type a generated word). We have a very strong KI based upon random probabilty generation and there will be 9 level of enemies, each typing faster and making less mistakes. As the game progresses, you will have less time to type the word correctly and the words will get more and more difficult (and longer). An expierenced writer can write up to 220 characters in a minute...3 characters per second. So the final stage will start at (let's suppose you need some time to actually read the word) a maximum time of 5 seconds for a 10-20 characters word. As already mentioned, the game can be played in multiplayer-mode over network so that 2 players can "write" against each other. There will also be bonuses through the game consisting of "a lightning bubble" and a "slow-time bubble". The lightning bubble gives the enemy 1/2 the time you had to write the word and the "slow-time bubble" give you 2x the time to defend the other had. Ah, i forgot to mention that, if you dont manage to attack correctly, nothing really happens but the round is over. Your enemy can attack you now. To everybody interested:The image displays exactly the arena we are going to use as well as the characters. As I didn't find larger characters, I used this one but I do prefer to use bigger characters (perhaps 100*50). As mentioned this morning, I need 6 characters (portraits, front view, back view), an arena and eventually attack and defend animations (I would be very happy to get those). If anybody needs additional informations, I will contact him by email. Thanks, Laurent Haan

Hello Mr. Hahn! I am able and willing to do the job immediately. (Especially if you pay me 100 Euro) I'm studying grahpics design at the school of arts in Brunswick, Germany (now in the 5th semester) and was involved in pixel game illustration and design in DOS times. Examples: newer sprites from a jump and run made in macromedia director, using just a few colors portrait of Charles Babbage; digital design calendar (complete project to be found here: www.stolzenhain.net/digi1/)chess game iso layout for a pixelation competition More stuff on my website www.stolzenhain.net. If your're interested, please mail info@stolzenhain.net. Best wishes, Florian Stolzenhain P.S: My first post on this board, hope I did the HTML stuff right.

I so would have offered I assistance in a microsecond (before you offered the money) for a chance to work on a GBA game. But I have already comitted myself to way too much. Sounds great though and it makes a refreshing change to see sombody who has actually got a plan set up before asking for pixel help. I wish you all the luck finding people to help and as was previously mentioned, posting it on the real pixelation, as soon as it's back up, will probably get you a lot further.
