can somebody give me some advice as to how I can keep his torso from kind of juking back and forth like that? I've tried a few things, but I can't seem to get rid of that effect.

Try not moving it... move the head instead... here is a similar sprite I did...

Listen to Slainte, he is The King of Small :]
Your sprite is nice btw, but I would recommend giving it more contrast. Also skin tone is somehow strange to me. I think that making it move as Slaint has said would make it look good enough, so give it a shot.

never done a character in pixel art, what better a way then to see if I can accomplish a 16x16. I liked Slainte's animation, so I tried my hand at something similar: I'm probably going to do side, back, and diag too, when i get them all done ill post a little animation of him walkin about using my grasstiles. Added a westward diag sprite and a rotational, d**n you slainte now you've got me goin. Here I updated a side version of my guy noticed a delay on the animation of .12 works best.

Hey soj, I think the effect you might want to be shooting for is whichever leg is sticking out, the arm on the same side should be back and darker, and vice versa, your improving none the less, with the head bobbing and whatnot.

It is improving but I'd suggest an extra middle frame to smooth the animation a bit, if I have some time i will work an edit later... nice character there dogmeat And methinks... thnx for the praising, but I don't thin such a coder like me can be considered king on any pixel-art I just try my best

sojourner: it is way better now but right - you should try adding middle frame and shadeleg + hand that is back a bit (if pixelation wasn't down you could check out Slainte's abbot&monk) Nice try dogmeat, heh - funky hair X] Slainte - heh I still think so, there are not many references here as not much people around here pixel small stuf but I think you are the best among them, simple as that. anyway if you have some free time you could draw a sprite or two for an opensource game Battle for Wesnoth wesnoth.whitevine.net/Every character is only 3 frames (nrmal, attack, defense). Sorry to go offtopic :]

Thnx for the support... well I've been pixelling from 'round april... and I must admit i'm getting the grasp of it, mostly on small sprites... big pieces work fine (but I mean big... round 300x300...) My most critical point rounds on mid-size sprites and backgrounds... but well... I am happy so far with my pixels and that is the most important thing... I know I lack the mastery shown by many ppl in pixelation, but well... I can have my own decent sprites BTW on that propossal for battle for Wesnoth... I have been studing the base sprites and they look nice a bit big for my common sizes (70x70 normal & 90x90 for monsters/big units) but maybe I'll give it a try... though I'd have to ask 'bout what they are missing

Their sprites may be a tad bigger than your ship but not much. Anyway still I consider it your area, heh. I know you have 3 projects on your choulders already but when you have time to do at least one unit I would be really happy. This would involve drawing 3 different sprites of the same unit. Go ahead and ask Dave or anyone there at the forum they will praise for doing sth. :] They lack good coders too :] If you want to do Windows port (game is programmed mainly for linux) you will be even more welcome, heh. OK I know you will not want to. I am waitng for your projects and remember about me willing to translate for you into Polish :]

I think I'll make a slightly different suggestion . . .
Keep the head and the torso stationary. The arms and the legs should move, but only the hair if it's very loose.
In your case, i suggest you try making it so that only his arms and legs move. see how that turns out.
