Good topic... Design:For everything, I don't even stray over to ImageReady. I wanna learn 3D though and when I do, ill prob use MAYA. Animation:I don't really do a lot of animation but usally when I do, I use... Development:
Depends on the project requirements but these are the ones I use most often. - MS VC++ 6
- Borland C++ Builder 4
- Dev-C++ 4.01 (Version 5 as soon as it's out of beta)
- Editpad Classic
And for graphic libaries...

for design/drawing/animation, I use Microangelo GIFted 1.0, a old program that I bought once. It's handy, and it does what I want it to do.
For dev, I use ARM SDT 2.50 and Textpad (I do GBA stuff).

Design: Corel PhotoPaint ( for the pixeling ) Fireworks ( for it's good png abilities ) plus Corel Draw ( for more complex sketches - fonts and title compositions as well as the vector illustrations I do besides pixelwork) Bryce 5 ( for landscape renderings, skies and backdrops )
Animation: Corel PhotoPaint Corel Draw ( as I think it's sometimes easier to animate the vector graphics than pixel complex animations )
Development: rarely do it and most of it is online flash stuff ( flash MX )

Design: any art program, I have them all at work and home. Paper, charcoal on wall, whatever. I've been drawing since I was 4, my grandparents knew that whole "kids soak up like sponge" thing so thats what they did since my grandpa was one of the head publishers at harper and row.
Animation: I did my first animation in first grade, our art teacher had this wheel thing, where you drew a 12 frame strip or something, put it in the wheel thing and spun it, and it made an animation. These days I do most of my animations in imageready, since it communicates directly with photoshop.
Development: Any platform, any system, I've been programming since I was 7, I wrote the first ever image encryption engine in PHP just to show off my skills to my peers ( used to teach php ) I have a nack for codes, and finding connections, maybe its all those logic problem books in grade school.
I'd have to say my entire life is driven by creating things.

Design: MSPaint, PS7, the GIMP
Animation: I have yet to find one I like. Easytoon was fun, but has limitations that will not allow for practical spriting.
Development: Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, Dev-C++ 4 works nicely also. (BTW, MetaL for Macintosh and QB are great for non-programmers and beginners.) I'm also a huge fan of Python and Perl (<3 Perl...).
