kind of reminds me of the little guys I do, like in my avatar, I think a different pallete would benefit you, and some more colors, for details. It almost looks like you borrowed the shape from my avatar, but maybe not. anyway, you definately have something going, you just need more details.

Adding more colours to smoothen the facial features would be a good start... and adding ears !
Make the hair longer - 8 more pixels down... ( looks like a 1930 hairstyle with shaved sides )
