[...] May be adding some "follow=no" and other understanble words for bots in the meta tags would help? Spiders doesn't generate much traffic. However if you place a robots.txt in your root directory like that: User-agent: * Disallow: /
Spiders *should* stay out. Well... it won't help much.

well i dislike the concept of deleting the members who have not been active for 5 months or more. i like to have a big library of members so i can become nostalgic or access various artists sites. we see many good artists who have been offline for many months, and it would be sad if their past presence in the community should be forgotten.

That and there are lots of people who dont post and DO check the boards often... (like me) and im on the 2nd page! er, does loggin in count as being active? and the post a message thing would end up as making me post something stupid every once and while......
Well, as long as i get email notified BEFORE my account gets deleted im okay with it then... so i still have time to save it.

why not find a cheap host ( i know of one ) that suits the bandwidth needs, take the cost per month EXAMPLE: 15$ and pick 15 people at random to donate a dollar, every month would be 15 different people, and so on. I wouldnt mind pitching in a dollar but then again I dont know what your bandwidth needs are.

I got an idea.
Get some expensive $30-$50 a month server. Then put some ads to gain the money to pay for the server, that's what I am doing.

Jules: no ads if possible, was maentioned so many times before :]
drilleddiced: those members who really were the part of community will not be deleted as we were talking about 6 months of not even logging on the site AND having post count down certain number (5-15). I don't think that there is any member whose past presence would enclose in less than even 30 posts. Plus that 6 months is really big amount of time for ONLY logging in AND ONLY being a case if you have barely not posted.
Hard Rock: Logging in should be counted as activity and I believe it will be so, even if it is not right now already. It is matter of attitude whetehr members will post something stupid. The same goes with 100char limit - many people abuse it or write some stupid things only to reach magic 100 signs... And this does not mean, in my opinion, that 100 char limit is bad. It simply encourages people.
Ok so everyobdy why don't you read previous posts. I mean this topic is so used, it kinde wore off...
How I do see it:
1. Deleting members is not for slimming bandwith used but for making members' list more accurate. 2. It is fair to give 6 months for logging in again. If a user did not post too much AND did not even log in for half a year it is quite alright to delete him/her for me. 3. 15 posts giving eternal membership is quite low number as below it you can't even use most popular forums (WIP+Finished section). Anyway still if you do not have those 15 you will ONLY be deleted after long-not-lurking. 4. Critters rockz.
So waddayathink? I believe it will be fair, you can even leave this notify by email feature so users will be warned (though I believe it may leave us with some nostalgic fools who will only log in to save account and will not even look at anybodies work - but I may be wrong)

I still think that the deletion of idle members thing should be left to the discretion of the mods rather than putting a fixed number of posts and months on things. but the mods could use these suggestions as guidelines.
The nbe feature is nice to have, but to be honest i'm not bothered either way, i visit pixelation in my lunch break and in the evenings regardless of whether i've recieved an email notification, just to see what everyone is upto.
I think it's safe to say that frozen&Tsu et al will do the best that they can to preserve bandwidth and avoid putting ads on the boards. I am personally looking forward to getting back to the warm wooly jumper that is pixelation.!!

By nbe I've meant notifying user about account being close to deletion :]

Hey, sorry to see the forum down. I hope to see it back up soon as it housed tons of great sprite artists and their excellent work.
I hope me linking to the forum didn't cause/add to the bandwidth problem. If so, please inform me on how I can help solve this (removing the link, etc).

I think it is perfectly fair to remove a user who has been idle for 3 months and has a post count <5. That pretty much solves our problem right there.

Hola, folks. In a way, it's completely inappropriate that I ask this here, but I figure somebody can direct me to where I want to be looking. Pixelation is to pixel artists as X is to game music artists. Where is X? I'm a newbie game-music developer looking for an outlet/project to get involved with, or at least a forum of like-minded folks to help me improve my skills. Any ideas?

Make a new thread instead if you wonder this, and i'm not sure why you would ask about game music here at pixelation...well, anyone could help this guy so we can get rid of him ?

okey, let's see. Dunno if someone has said this, but I got to the fifth page, and got tired of reading. anyways.. what I wanted to say is that the very best way (IMHO) of making money, is www.cafepress.com. In other words: merchandise. You send in what you want printed on mugs, t-shirts, mousepads, cd's, lunchboxes, etc. and choose a price which is over the base price set by cafepress. they take the base price and you get the rest, when people buy something. also, it doesn't cost a thing to use! just a thought.. Sincerely, postlogic (who is currently thinking of making a site which complements pixelation)

Try www.web1000.com50MB free, no ads, unlimited bandwidth and you can activate an integrated YaBB forum once registered. I think the only problem is the domain name, this host has some fixed, so this site might become something like: www.pixelation.foronlinegames.com But probably there is a way to rename it paying some dollars. FrozenEmu, PLEASE, open the old programming forum again!! Please!!!
