So... when is this going to be finished? I've not posted here because I'd prefer to post on the regular boards, and I've got Tonnes of work now. Not to seem impatient, but I'm just curious to know how things are progressing.
Cheers, ~ Lady Asenath

Can't we just make pixel art and be happy?
If you want to talk game dev, go to a game dev art. If you want to talk 2d, not pixel, art then go to an art forum. This is a pixel forum.
(Keep up the good work admins) : )

Haha, wanting to change the name to 2D game art is so ridiculous. Like silvir said, if you want to talk just "2D art" there is a place out there for ya. Sadly for you, it is most likely not here.
[rant] It is one of the things I have noticed lately in the world, kind of i mean really pisses me off. Someone has a different idea than everyone else about how something should be done and instead either coping or going elsewhere, they insist that everyone else change. Stupid self centered punks... Why not deal with it rather than be a pain? not saying the guy that said the 2d thing was taking it that far, it just made me think about how much that angers me...

We actually had a music section (called "Distortion") for a few months, but it had like 10 people on it, barely posting, and when we eventually snuffed it out no one really noticed/cared, heh. Cool, cool. Yeah, I'd've done the same thing in your shoes. I've started hanging around the forums at www.vgmusic.com. A lot of people there seem more interested in MIDI sequencing themes from _old_ games rather than composing, but it's a start. I'll probably keep an eye open here, though. There's some talent lurking about here, no doubt. Good luck with your server transition (or whatever's going on here)!

I love the cafepress idea, not only because it'll make Frozen Emu and Tsugumo some money to run the forum but also because it would be really cool to have a pixelation t-shirt.
Even if the forum were to branch out in some way the name should stay pixelation, it just has more style to it.
People seem to be getting really touchy about this. I don't now if it's just frustration about the forum being down or something else but just relax. Frozen Emu and Tsu have said they have things worked out so we'll just have to trust them on it.

Agreed, Noadi!
Relax people, FE and Tsu say they're on it, show some f-ing respect. Of course, you could always create and host your very own pixelart BB if their schedule is not acceptable to you. I think it was d**n tight of them to get this temporary board up for us in the meantime. We could have been given a note saying "hey guys, Pixelation's down, it'll be back when we have the time or inclination."
Beggars can't be choosers.
I have to say I don't understand why people are "saving" their work for the "real" Pixelation. Post here for now and let the admins do their (unpaid) jobs already.

That's why the CafePress thing is nice. You don't order up a specific amount of t-shirts before you sell, you simply send in the gfx, and then print on demand.
Anyways.. about all this game talk and stuff. I've begun making a site (well, started planning) which complements Pixelation. Kinda like the pixel-zone, but bigger and with more features... The reason for this is nothing more than mere practice at webdesign & programming, but maybe I'll put it up sometime.

We were actually talking about a Pixelation t-shirt at some point.
I'd be more than happy to set up a shop for it and all if people are interested. Maybe we could have a "t-shirt design" pixel challenge and design a pixelation shirt or two out of the winning designs? Guess I could make a poll when the main board goes back up and get some opinions on that. Somebody be sure to remind me if I forget.
Board should be back up sometime today (Wednesday), if all goes well. One factor in getting it back up is out of my crontrol, so cross your fingers. heh

I haven't read everything, but people suggested that removing inactive user-accounts, disabling search for non-registered users or delete the archive. This won't do you any good. Sure, the database will be smaller. But that's server-side and has nothing to do with bandwidth. Smaller tables don't mean your site will use less bandwidth. Sure, without an archive the search results will be a bit less and people will find what they are looking for quicker (less page views) but that's the only difference it will make, and I don't think this will solve the problem.
What you need to do is make the HTML as small as possible. Keep it under 30k, preferably under 20k if possible. Then do away with most of the images that are part of the board. Instead of icons, use html-text, or at least optimize the images as much as possible. Put all css and javascript in seperate files. And get a banner that will cover bandwidth costs.

This is not possible in a lot of cases, since actual contents of the pages are added to the document when the client sends a request to the server. which it grabs from the database (preferably local), and sends back, which will then suck bandwidth.

Maybe I should make a mockup samurai design or something for it... it would be SO much fun... ;D ;D ;D
