Well following methinks suggestion I started some work for a sprite intended for Battle for Wesnoth... (if they accept it that is...) I am currently working on the arms... have tried some versions but have not found something I like... but i'd say i'll go for a big danish battle axe (or pole axe) still very early but c&c welcome on overall sprite proportions and desing (note coloring is still very very early)... btw ... it is supposed to be a beastmen champion (minotur or broo-like creature)

Thats v cool, you've got alot of detail there in a v small space, on the horns, the shape of the head etc, very nice.
Not sure if maybe the legs are a little short.... hmm not sure, I'm torn between it being a slightly cute cartoony style and more realistic, I guess the leg length is a judgement call, but lookin good, and yeah a huge axe would be cool.

Hm, actually I find it difficult to tell towards which direction the minotaur is facing. I'd suggest moving the beltbuckle one/two pixels to the left, and maybe(depends on what he'll actually do with his arms) change the torsos "facing-direction"(dunno how to put it) to where head&legs point.
designwise I'd say he looks a bit ... shaved. Maybe add some hair around his neck (like a horse has)? Oh, and a cow-tail. Ooh~, and maybe let him not have brown hair but the brown(black)-white style some cows have (or an albino, or maybe black) - since every minotaur seems to be with brown hair (alafair). ~floats away~

Why do you want to change Slainte minotaur into cow-man. It is horse-man, heh. And they always have brown fur.
My my, as always - many detials, little space :] Maybe his legs could be a tad longer, or maybe not, truth to say I've never seen a minotaur in my whole life. Anyway it is hard to judge his stance without arms draw, but I think he is leaning a bit towards out right. You can also add some tiny strokes to make fur have some fur... uhm.. duno how to explain it. And it is true about belt, you should move it a tad to our right. Hehe nice work, I really like it :]

"Why do you want to change Slainte minotaur into cow-man. It is horse-man, heh. And they always have brown fur." *cough* [no-breakfast-mode] I'm never wrong, Mr. methinks. U_U www.pantheon.org/articles/m/minotaur.html . Besides- I've never seen a horse with horns; well, maybe a unicorn, but that's just some sort of metaphor anyway. So, nya~ . [cont.no-breakfast-mode] Alas, no true need for brown fur. [silly] But how about adding a cow-bell ? THE accessory for the modern stylish minotaur! =D *_* [/silly]

I am aiming more to a somewhat goat-man and absolutely not to a cow-man but maybe a bull-man at most... I will add the arms today I suppose...

Yeah Slainte ROCKZ :] I believe many pixelartist do it these way. Some draw naked bodies first and then add clothes and all I believe some also draw people without hands and torsos and legs :] And uhm... Yeah, rght. I'm junior member here. What a loss. Soon it's gone.

I normally draw a basic volumetric figure... starting from a stick man I add the major body shapes (very basic forms) to it... then I work from down to top adding more detail... arms normally end up on a new layer as I tend to try once and again until I get what i am looking for... still not worked on the sprite... too much work yesterday had me pinned at the office for about 5 more hours than expected OK did some more work on him hope you like how the arms are going...

He's looking pretty cool, the legs are maybe a bit small, but it doesn't detract from the sprite so leave em as they are. he could do with a bit of 'furryness'on his legs, it may not make him 'authentic' but it would help to give him a bit of character. a good fur reference would be the minotaur from the mythological mayhem challenge, hopefully someone has it saved on their comp and will post it here.
what are the red/orange things gonna be??
as for sprite construction, i go;
starting with the head (for proportional accuracy) then the shoulders then the hips then the arms and then the legs. i don't really use a stickman or shapes, i just picture it in my head and 'trace' it. i normally draw these with the mouse, or use my tablet for larger pieces.

Hm, - what is the red-brown thing ? - depending on what it is and what he does with the other hand, his right hand could look a bit odd/twisted, as if he's holding it the wrong way around (kinda like he's holding weights for weightlifting). BUT, that could be just me. =/
oh yeah, the Faerithian way of creating a sprite: step1: rough sketch step2: start with the outlines for the head optional: realize the sketch's anatomy is wrong, make new sketch while keeping the head step3: outline the torso, legs, add hair step4: curse the feet step5: stare at the sprite for a long time and then draw the basic clothes step6-x: draw the arms stepx+1: finish it

>SLAUGHTER< Yeah SLAUGHTER, SLAUGHTER!!! Massive axe here it is. I like the way it turned out, some blood perhaps OK I know it is BfW sprite so no blood to be I guess. Anyway you will have to ask Dave. WICKED. All I can say. As for now axe is the best part of it. :]

slainte, only prob i see with the axe is the left hand, ( if your the mino ) it looks like his hand should be going over the handle, but theres a line on there that makes it look a little wierd, maybe smooth that out? other then that fantastic stuff will you marry me and have my children?
