Hello Pixel Artists:
Long Dog Studios is currently looking for an artist interested in working on our new game project: "The Adventures of Slinky Dog" or AoSD for short
“The Adventures of Slinky Dog” is a classic 2D action adventure platform game designed for a PC running Windows 98 and above with DirectX 8.0 and higher.
The main philosophy behind “The Adventures of Slinky Dog” is that anyone can stand up in the face of adversity to meet a challenge. The most unlikely hero, a wiener dog, becomes the champion of good. After accidentally stumbling on an evil plot, he will defend the world from the spread of evil while learning to face his fear. The game will remain non-violent; Slinky will never die, though bringing his courage meter down to zero combined with the absence of extra lives will make Slinky unable to continue due to fear. His enemies are illusions imbued with the power to drain fear energy. They are not real creatures, so there is no blood or gore upon defeating any enemy.
Game Overview
The player will guide Slinky through various levels, all of which, except for the abandoned mine shaft, were created by the consumer of fear to increase Slinky’s fear energy.
The game will allow the player to identify with Slinky and grow fond of him because of his realistic reactions and ability to come up with clever solutions for seemingly insurmountable problems and enemies. This game is one of quick thinking and some light strategy in strange settings that, though scary and foreign to Slinky, will be fun for the player to explore and learn how to use to his or her advantage.
The player’s main task is to guide Slinky through the various levels while defeating the consumer of fear generated nightmarish monsters that try to drain him of all his courage.
This game is non-violent, as Slinky is defeating evil-imbued illusions, not actual creatures. Also, Slinky is never killed; He can loose courage completely and the player may have to start over at the last checkpoint.
The player will be given several different ways to solve puzzles and be able to come up with their own solutions as often as possible. The environment created by the consumer of fear will often be of use to Slinky, as he finds that his body size and abilities are less of a hindrance and more of a benefit as the game progresses.
The atmosphere of AoSD should be one of exploration and fear. Everything is strange and large to Slinky, because of his dachshund size and having lived comfortably in his home all of his life. This is his first taste of adventure, and he’s not sure he likes it yet.
The style of AoSD is that of cartoon-y realism. If this were a 3D game, it would be cell shaded. Harvest Moon Save the Homeland for Playstation 2 is a good example of ‘cartoon-y realism’ in a 3D environment. The artwork will be drawn in a cartoon fashion, yet there will be no wild takes or extreme silliness. Instead, the cartoon-like characters will reflect the real emotions that Slinky is feeling as well as the cruel intent of his enemies.
