anime and crappy mickey mouse stuff? That's a bunch of crap! Kurt Halsey for instance (http://kurthalsey.com), even though I think he has some sadistic pleasure in making himself out to be a victim.. There's alot of drawing styles out there that aren't anime and are still artistic! Gahh ugh almost anything can be considered artistic, as far as I'm concerned. Even if it is 'crappy'. Let's not be close-minded Just the fact that people have been able to develop their own style is art!

i'm not closed minded and i'm not talking about art in general, he said he wanted to be better then anime, he made the reference to it. so I responded based on what he said, ill be the first to tell you that theres tons better art styles compared to anime any day, but for the narrow scope of art that he was referring to, thats what I was responding to.

Chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii?? =P
Ok, maybe I misunderstood but you did say 'I don't quite think theres anything thats better then anime' in your previous comment (and I am purely sticking to the art of cartoon drawings). There are still tons of different 'toon styles' that I wouldn't consider 'crappy mickey mouse' stuff. Mickey Mouse is a classic anyway! Don't dis the mouse ;D

nah, i personally really don't like anime. for the most part, it's pathetically plotted and ridiculously drawn and conceptualized. it's mostly old tricks, except for the rare show that's both artistically exceptional and intelligently done. (lain, cowboy bebop, any hayao miyazaki films)
i don't think this post was necessary, but i figured i'd slip in my own two bits here.

What about Isao Takahata?? ~sniff~ I love Grave of the Fireflies. I dunno.. I like anime films, but so far, the only show I've liked was Sailor Moon. Chobits is a pretty funny series though

Now I love anime, I think a lot of it is absolutely beautiful (like anything produced by Studio Ghibli). But there is crap anime as well as wonderful anime.
Similarly while most american and new Disney stuff isn't that great some of it is. If you look at older Disney stuff like a couple of my favorites, Fantasia or Pinochio you'll see the animation is amazing (especially if you take into account that Fantasia was made in 1944). Or to look at a newer american animated movie (though not disney) Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron has absolutely amazing animation.
You're also forgetting that the US and Japan are not the only countries in the world that make animation, I'm sure if you looked there is probably great stuff coming out of other countries as well. Crappiness and greatness is not limited to animation from any one country or style.

(lain, cowboy bebop, any hayao miyazaki films) i don't think this post was necessary, but i figured i'd slip in my own two bits here. - Ridiculously drawn? Two words: Justice League Both "American animation" and "Japanese animation" have their faults. Both like to draw women with ridiculously large breasts, tiny waistlines, and long-ass legs. Disney doesn't like black people (harsh generalization here, just go work with me), Anime doesn't even know what a black person is, and Comic-book styles think black people have lips half the size of their face. Comic book styles generally give men shoulders you can land a plane on, Anime generally makes either skinny men getting lucky with bombshell women or men with muscles on muscles, and Disney guys all look like Ken dolls. - So in short, all styles suck in some way, and they're all good in some way. When I find out how Comic book styles are good, I will let you know.

My first pixelart was of 'sword bloke' and i got loads of help on him from some of the guys on pixelation. Although his pants still totally suk..! Now for the anime debate. I've always regarded Anime as anything that is not based on realistic proportions, drawing what is in your mind as opposed to what you see. In fact this is also how Miyazaki-san also describes anime, drawing from the imagination. Anime was originally inspired by western animation, rip offs of felix the cat and such. And now traditional western animation is inspired by anime, so it is increasingly difficult to make any distinction between the two. I personally think that the disney film 'the lion king' is possibly the greatest animation ever produced, especially if you compare the quality to a stereotype anime such as ghost in the shell, or vampire hunter d. And if talking animals isn't 'drawing from the imagination' then i don't know what is. So i guess most form of modern animation can be described as anime. DBZ had Master Po-Po, he was black with sausage lips, he kinda looked like a a 'golly wog' from Noddy though (which were of course taken out of the Noddy animation). And indeed Uub was black. Naruto also has black characters, just not main characters. I think that the reason animation does not have as many black characters is to do with on screen clarity, it is more difficult to make out the defining features on a black person in animation than it is on a white person, and i think that is why most main characters tend to be white.

First proper pixel art I did was probably making a sprite of Kaneda on his bike from Akira which is still one of the finest animated movies ever to have been made. I also did a sub par Neo Tokyo backdrop to have him racing along. Even did a simple version of the light trails from his bike... Looked better than the official Akira game anyway...

DBZ had Master Po-Po, he was black with sausage lips... sure popo was black but i dont think hes suposed to be a human. at one point in the story they said that he had lived in gods castle long before it was gods there.

Okay, quickie post.
First, it's very callous to say that there are only two types of art: Anime and American Micky-mouse. Most geographical locations have multiple art styles (America, Europe, Africa, Far East), and even withing those groups there are subgroups. I can identify 4 styles of American art of the top of my head, and 3 styles of Japanese art. Sure, Anime is more stylish than American art, but that doesn't necessary mean it's better (we just think so since most crappy anime's don't even get translated).
Second, I'm amazed how quickly the temp forum degenerated. Just cool it people; even though the admins are away doesn't mean it's ok to go on like this.
