Okay, quickie post. First, it's very callous to say that there are only two types of art: Anime and American Micky-mouse. Most geographical locations have multiple art styles (America, Europe, Africa, Far East), and even withing those groups there are subgroups. I can identify 4 styles of American art of the top of my head, and 3 styles of Japanese art. Sure, Anime is more stylish than American art, but that doesn't necessary mean it's better (we just think so since most crappy anime's don't even get translated). We get Dragonball Z which I find hard to class in the same category as excellence such as Cowboy Bebop and Akira

sorry to burst your bubble, but I dont quite think theres anything thats better then anime, theres 2 categories in the toon world, american crappy mickey mouse crap, and real art, anime A couple of the AniMatrix, if I remember correctly, were awesome and what I would call "real" art. My first pixel art I can remember of was some Robot-head of whom's eyes glowed... I don't have it though, as it was a loong time ago!

Both like to draw women with ridiculously large breasts, tiny waistlines, and long-ass legs. just look at dragon ball it even has a black main character in the "rr saga" sure akira toriyama also made black people with big lips but that was so you could see a differens And it also doesn't use the typical stereotypes of women in cartoons as mentioned by Tenshi above. No it portrays women as they truly are... ugly, constantly nagging, bitches. Heh heh, just couldn't resist.

I think both American and Anime cartoons blow equally bad. American cartoons used to have class, and I don't know took more than five minutes to make. I mean look at the drawing of Spongebob Squarepants, Dexter's Labaratory, or anything else on my television. It's thick-lined coloring books come to life. I long for the day when greats like Looney Toons come back into play. Anime looks just about the same from every cartoon. It's like watching the same thing over and over again subsituting big-bossomed bimbos, with massive maniacal machines. I think they both have ones that stick out, but are of course far outweighed by craptacularness.

Actually crappy cartoons have always outnumbered the incredible ones. The thing is only the great old cartoons like Looney Toons or The Flintstones or Scooby Doo are still played, the others have all faded into obscurity.
You also make the mistake of comparing television shows to movies. Movies are almost always better than television shows (there are always exceptions). For example the Lion King was an amazingly animated movie but if you ever watched the TV spinoff Timon and Pumbaa it was awful, same with the Little Mermaid TV series. Miyazaki's movies are amazing because not only is he a genius he can afford to take years to produce a movie and use the best actors and animators, television is limited more by budget and by having to have a weekly show ready.

For my money, it just doesn't get better than late 1930's Popeye (the ones where he used to constantly talk to himself and mumble under his breath). Except maybe for super old B/W Woody Woodpecker cartoons.

I actually dont remember what was my first pixelart. Maybe an isometric room or a house, or just a box.

Like i could remember, I started dabbling so young, the first thing I remember doing was......um, well.....lemme see, it was a um...man it was so long ago, well the first thing i can think of is, well I pixelled death scenes for the monsters in the kilik & play library, then, probably textures, or bones, I did a ton of doom textures with K&p though I never knew how to implement them, I probably began with pilloshaded bricks, no, but I started with brick walls in general, that's for sure.

First I can remember was a big (hundreds of pixels in each dimension) high-tech soldier (with unintentionaly deformed anatomy, not like that's changed) which I did on mspaint in it's horribly awkward zoom mode back in the days of Windows 3.0.
